About Me

James Michael Langley: I came into the world of philathropy through literature and communications. My parents began their careers as Shakespearean actors and maintained passion for drama and literature throughout their lives. After serving in the Army in the late Viet Nam era, I earned a bachelor's degree in English Literature and a Master's in British History. While earning those degrees, I wrote fiction and worked as a journalist. My earliest jobs in higher education were in communications, then public affairs. When I assumed philanthropic responsibilities, I brought with me my parents respect for an audience, what Shakespeare had helped me understand about being human, and what my career had taught me about the power of listening. After serving as the Vice President for External Affairs at Georgia Tech, the Vice Chancellor for External Relations at the University of California, San Diego, and the Vice President for Advancement at Georgetown University, I created Langley Innovations.
